BEARS OFF TO A GOOD START AT SCRIMMAGE
Friday Night Lights were kicked of this past Friday, August 16, when schools from around the area participated in scrimmages during the Cumberland County High School Football Jamboree. Our Gray’s Creek High School Varsity Football team went head-to-head with Jack Britt High School’s Buccaneers during the last game of the evening, taking place from 9:00pm-10:00pm.
It was certainly a battle yesterday, despite touchdowns not counting and the scoreboard not keeping track. Practicing plays and skills they’ve been learning all summer, our boys were able to get a feel for the field and prepare for the first official game of the season as they take on South Johnston High School Friday, August 23rd.
Because this was just a scrimmage, not all of our key players played this game. This gave rising JV players like Jarrod Kenney to show what they can bring to the table. Kenney looked well carrying the ball during the scrimmage, so did players Zack Adams and Gavin Freeman. The secondary also looked, especially senior DJ Crutcher.
Our defense were certainly able to get some good plays in. Featured to the left is Josiah Arreguin taking down a player from Jack Britt, showing that our boys are not to be messed with.
The highlight of the scrimmage occurred when Junior Jackson Sterling threw a pass to Senior Jordan Burns who ran it in for a touchdown, covering 45 yards to pass.
Overall, this was a good practice for our team as they prepare for the culmination of all their hard work this spring and summer, as they take on South Johnston and begin the season.
